From 'Vogue & Vintage' to 'Design and...': My Blogging Journey

Hi there,

I've been pondering how to start this first blog post for quite some time. It's funny—I have posts ready, but the intro always feels the hardest to write. So, I figured why not start at the beginning?

Here's a fun fact about me: I'm not new to blogging. I fall into the category of a "vet" and "OG blogger," though I'm not particularly fond of either title. Let's start at the beginning with a story.

It was 2008. I was sitting in my tiny New York apartment, which was a bed, a sink, a mirror for outfit checks, and a window overlooking the Holland Tunnel. I decided to create a blog on a platform called Blogger. I dubbed it "Vogue & Vintage" because of my love for fashion and thrifting. My first post was about a designer collaboration with Payless, featuring my ridiculously oversized red patent leather platform wedges adorned with a silver zipper up the front. I titled it "Pretty Ugly." When I hit submit, I had no idea this space would be my online home for over a decade and that I would share fashion, travel, home decor, and eventually lifestyle posts and vlogs with strangers online.

I cultivated a community of amazing people worldwide who all loved to thrift and talk about their latest finds. We grew together, had children, and leaned on one another when we couldn't bear to part with our toddlers transiting daycare and elementary school. During that time, I was looking for a community I didn't see, and by the end of 12 years, I had created something beautiful. I moved it to social media and disconnected the words that went along with it.

Over the past seven years, I've explored life and disconnected from weekly blog posting. I pivoted in my career and life breathed and expanded in unimaginable ways. Yet, two years ago, I found myself secretly writing again, creating posts just for myself. I'd save them and move on with my life. Then, at the beginning of this year, I started writing on what felt like a schedule. I started talking about these "secret posts" with friends and family, and they said, "You need to share this because I have the same issues."

Sometimes spirit has a funny way of bringing you back to the things that spark your joy. When I disconnected from my blog, I felt uninspired. In reality, I was tired and needed to live a bit more to begin to write a bit more. So, with all that being said, let me introduce you to my new platform called "Design and...". It's a space where all things design—fashion, interior, digital, and visual—come together to cultivate conversations around the parts of design we often discuss in secret. The parts of the design that sometimes feel controversial. I'm here to bring them up, spark organic and healthy conversations, and talk about the depths of design beyond the surface.

If this piques your interest, sign up for my newsletter to get my weekly emails to read alongside your tea or cold brew coffee! I look forward to writing again and cultivating a new community of amazing people, and I hope you join me!
